Goals and Objectives of the Program

What are the goals of the program?

Glad you asked! Below are listed some of the reasons why the Toyota International Teacher Program exists, and the reasons why I am so excited to be a part of this exciting journey!

The Toyota International Teacher Program is a fully funded professional
development program for U.S. secondary school teachers (grades 6-12)
that aims to advance a commitment to environmental stewardship and a
sense of global connectedness in U.S. schools and communities. Over a
two week period, participating teachers will explore various environmental
issues in Costa Rica, a country at the forefront of developing and
implementing innovative solutions to environmental challenges.
Specifically, the program seeks to:

• Enhance teachers’ environmental knowledge and understanding of
global conservation issues

• Facilitate the development of interdisciplinary “solution-focused”
curricula that teach environmental and global issues through creative
and hands-on approaches

• Strengthen ties and support collaboration among teachers,
community members, and organizations, both locally and
internationally

• Support teachers in their efforts to educate their students and
community members about the importance of environmental
stewardship
