Now less than a month away from departure, the details begin to emerge! We recently received our itinerary for the trip, including flight information, hotels and even meals! What fun! It makes it all the more real.
I am planning to take a variety of small gifts for the students, teachers and guides that we interact with along the way. Pencils, pins (yes, I meant PINS, hehe), coins, stickers and other small, non-weighty items are on my "to-buy" list. I would love for them all to be either USA - themed, or California/San Diego - themed. I hope to give everyone I meet a little taste of where I come from!
I am also hoping to take along letters in Spanish from my Spanish speaking students to give to the students in the classrooms we will visit. It is my hope that I can deliver these, and perhaps get a short letter in return. It is very exciting for my students to think about having a possible pen-pal in Costa Rica!
Next week I also begin my eco-centric lesson plans that will introduce my students to Costa Rica, and the concepts of sustainability. I am VERY excited to go down this path with them, and I know that my upcoming experiences in Costa Rica will further solidify those lessons I teach now!
